Koch Fertilizer is pleased to announce three plants — Beatrice, Nebraska; Enid, Oklahoma; and Brandon, Manitoba — have earned 2022 ENERGY STAR® certification for superior energy performance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Natural Resources Canada.
This is Beatrice’s fourth, Enid’s third and Brandon’s second time to earn certification, reflecting a legacy of continued energy savings.
ENERGY STAR certification signifies these sites perform in the top 25 percent for energy efficiency compared to other nitrogenous fertilizer production plants in the U.S. and Canada. This means the three Koch Fertilizer plants spend less on energy and have lower energy-related environmental impacts than similar plants. Additionally, all plants awarded ENERGY STAR certification must be energy performance verified and in good standing with federal environmental laws.
“Stewardship is one of our core values and energy efficiency is a key priority of our stewardship framework,” said Pascal Van Teeffelen, executive VP of operations and compliance for Koch Ag & Energy Solutions Operations Management. “Earning ENERGY STAR certification is a testament to our teams’ dedication to stewardship excellence. We are proud of our employees who continue to identify opportunities to enhance our processes and operations to ensure we manage our resources responsibly.”
To earn certification, fertilizer plants enter key plant operating data and annual energy data into industry-specific energy management tools called ENERGY STAR Energy Performance Indicators that benchmarks a plant’s energy performance against the industry.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their operations more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
These certifications build on Koch Industries’ commitment to responsible stewardship. In 2017, 2021 and 2022, Koch Fertilizer, as a subsidiary of Koch Industries, earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award, in recognition of its superior energy management practices.
